      Engineering Academy of Ukraine is an all-Ukrainian scientific and technical self-governing organization that unites, on a voluntary basis, the leading scientists and engineers in the fields of natural science, engineering and economics, as well as work collectives of enterprises and organizations on the basis of their mutual interests. The Academy is the legal successor of the Ukrainian Republic Department of the USSR Engineering Academy founded in 1989 on the initiative of the Ukrainian Council of Ministers and with the support of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
     The Academy was registered by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine in November 1991. 
     The major aim of the Academy is to combine the efforts of Ukrainian scientists and specialists in order to develop the intellectual potential in the sphere of engineering, to apply scientific and technological achievements in industry, to unite Ukrainian engineers and scientists on the basis of their professional interests. During the earliest years of the formation of the Academy its structure and major activity trends were determined. 
     Among those who laid foundations of the Academy was Anatolyi M. Pidgornyi – an outstanding scientist, a gifted organizer, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Honored man of Science and Engineering of Ukraine. A.M. Pidgornyi was the one who became the first President of the Academy.

      Among the most important of the latter are:
  • to assist speeding-up of scientific and technological progress in priority directions of socio-economic development of Ukraine, to guaranty high competitiveness of engineering working-outs;
  • to organize carrying-out of the most important and perspective investigations and working-outs, to assist creation of virtually new types of equipment and technologies on the basis of the achievements of fundamental sciences;
  • to develop scientific and technical programs and projects, to make independent technical and economic examinations;
  • to develop efficient forms of consolidation of Ukrainian engineering community, to improve the social status and to protect professional interests of scientists and specialists;
  • to organize international cooperation and to represent the interests of the engineering community of Ukraine abroad.
     At present the Academy consists of:
approximately 500 full and corresponding members, more than 100 collective members in 23 regions of the country, among which are: ANTONOV ANTK (Kyiv), “TURBOATOM” Plc, “FED” National Enterprise, “ELECTROVAZMASH” National Enterprise (Kharkiv), “ZORYA-MASHPROJECT” National Enterprise (Mykolayiv), Ivchenko Design Bureau “PROGRESS” (Zaporizhzhya), “POLTAVGASDOBYCHA” Gas Production Department (Poltava), JCS “INTEKO” (Dnipropetrovsk), “DONBASTRANSGAS” (Donetsk), “PRIKARPATTRANSGAS” (Ivano-Frankivsk), “CHERKASYTRANSGAS” (Cherkasy).

     There are 20 scientific and technical sections working in the Academy, 5 institutes and centers conduct their scientific activity. The Academy is an associated member of the International Engineering Academy and Federation of Scientists of Ukraine. In 1996 the Academy started issuing a scientific journal – “Bulletin of Engineering Academy of Ukraine” which is enlisted among specialized scientific editions of the Highest Attestation Commission of Ukraine. The highest authority of the Academy is the General Assembly.In the periods between the General Assemblies the Academy is governed by Presidium which is elected for a 5-year period.
